Accessibility

At Maldon-town.com we have worked hard to ensure that all our media is accessible to people who have visual, hearing, motor or cognitive impairments.

Accessibility is a partnership between site producers and the creators of the operating system, browser, and specialist assistive technologies which many disabled users employ to allow them, for example, to view websites in easier-to-read colours, with larger fonts, or as spoken text.

As such technologies have become more available and sophisticated, we will:

  • ensure that its media work well with these assistive technologies to ensure an accessible experience for disabled users;
  • provide Accessibility Help below site which will guide users in customising their computers (either by explaining the accessibility features of their operating system or browser, or by introducing them to the range of assistive technologies which are available) to provide them with the most accessible web experience, not just for our website, but all websites;
  • in those instances where the specific accessibility needs of some disabled user groups require us to create new or repurposed editorial content, we will do this, wherever appropriate, so that we become more inclusive to a wider audience online.

Images
We have used images throughout this web site to add interest and provide variety. These images have been kept as small as possible and should load quickly. In some cases you are able to click through to a larger version of an image from a thumbnail example.

Each image is accompanied by an Alternative Text or "ALT" tag which provides a description of an image or a function. ALT tags are accessed by placing your mouse over the image.

Printer friendly versions
Although we have aimed to make our core web site as accessible as possible to the widest number of people we have also provided additional printer friendly options.

Useful Downloads

Adobe
Some of the pages on this web site have been created in Adobe Acrobat PDF (Portable Format Document) format. To view these documents you will need to download Acrobat Reader. You can get this from Adobe's web site.

PDF files cannot easily be read by access technology. Adobe have a web site which provides tools to help make PDF files more accessible to the visually disabled. These tools convert Adobe PDF documents into HTML or ASCII text which can then be read by a number of common screen reading programs that synthesize text as audible speech. The address for this site is http://access.adobe.com.
